Together, we are shaping the future of planning and construction in Vienna!
On behalf of the Vienna City Planning Department, Resource Conservation and Sustainability in Construction Unit, and as part of the DoTank Circular City Vienna 2020–2030 program, MIA will be accompanying the Urban Living Lab Circular Economy in Construction Vienna as operator until December 2025, responsible for lab design, implementation, and project management. This innovative project is the City of Vienna’s first Urban Living Lab project with the aim of bringing together construction practice, administration, and science to work on issues related to strengthening the circular economy in Vienna’s construction industry – with a view to translating theory into practice. Until December 2025, we will be co-creating, experimenting, and testing in the lab. The central focus is on the circular building economy.

The Projects kicked-off last Wednesday with the co-creative and varied launch event for the Urban Living Lab, which MIA was honored to organize and host as the starting point for the lab. The event featured presentations on content and participation formats, as well as short inputs on specific topics. Thank you to the many interested participants and experts from Vienna’s construction industry, academia, and administration, and thank you to the speakers, who provided excellent insight and an introduction to the subject of circular planning, construction, use, and renovation of buildings in their short presentations.
We will report on the short presentations later!
At MIA, we believe that open-ended process design within the framework of an urban living lab is the right tool to challenge an for important discourse, in order to further strengthen knowledge transfer in terms of resource conservation and sustainability!
