What characterizes circular building renowal? Where does Vienna stand on the path to achieving this? What changes are needed to implement it successfully?
These questions were addressed at the fourth and final workshop of the Urban Living Lab, which brought together experts from administration, research and development, and planning and construction practice. The aim was to identify key opportunities and obstacles to circular building renowal and to jointly develop solutions for increased implementation. At the outset, Bernadette Luger from the City of Vienna’s Building Department emphasized the ambitious goal: from 2030, circular planning and construction should become the standard—including in the field of building renovation.
MIA was once again responsible for the methodological development, implementation, and moderation of the workshop.

Feedback from the field of experts shows that the transformation towards circular renowal has begun, but still faces challenges. The participants agreed: it is crucial not to wait for “perfect solutions,” but to take action now and start with practical steps.
